COMMUNITY BULLETIN
Posted 05/07/08 by Tom Scully, Chairman, Bonny Doon Volunteer Fire/Rescue, Inc., Board of Directors

We, the Bonny Doon Fire Board, would like to let the Bonny Doon community know that this morning, May 7, LAFCo decided to hold their public hearing on our application for a our own fire protection district in the fall of this year.  A specific date and place will be decided upon in the next month or so and will be announced to the community at that time.

Cactus, Huntington Gardens, Pasadena Saturday, May 3
11:00 am Spring Nature Walk
Meet by the old Firehouse on Martin Road
Spring Nature Walks.  Val Haley will lead three walks that focus on the rare plants, ecology, and geology of the Reserve.  The Saturday walks will be held May 19, May 3, and May 17.  Sign up early, as there is a maximum of 15 people per walk.  To reserve your spot, call Val at 425- 0687, or send an email to vegnet@cruzio.com.  We will meet at 11:00 am at the parking lot next to the old firehouse on Martin Road.  Bring hiking shoes, water and a lunch. The walks usually last about 2.5 hours.

Nature Note.  French Broom (Genista monspessulana) is an invasive, non-native shrub.  French broom is starting to bloom now with sprays of yellow flowers, so it is easy to see.  Spring is a great time to remove broom plants, while the soil is wet and the plants are easy to pull by hand, and before they seed.

If you would like to learn more about the Reserve or volunteer in any way, call Val at 425-1587.
