Robert Burns, John Burns, and Bonny Doon - compiled by Paul Hostetter

While helping his daughter Stella with her homework, Bonny Doon resident Dave Deamer learned more about the history of Robert Burns' poem. There are several versions, and legend has it that Burns had in mind "Miss Kennedy, of Dalgarrock, a young creature, beautiful and accomplished, who fell a victim to her love for her kinsman, McDoual, of Logan.

Read various versions of the poem on The Literature Network: http://www.online-literature.com/donne/2483/

The musical version of the poem, sung by Madelaine Cave, can be heard on YouTube: Robert Burns "Ye Banks and Braes O' Bonnie Doon"
