Choose a Career in Science
by Barbara Louv

$12.95 Paperback ISBN: 1-59858-130-9

As a member of The Ladies of Bonny Doon, Barbara Louv was a major contributor and editor for Memories of the Mountain.  And now with her science and educator's hat on, she has written Choose a Career in Science.

This book can be used in a variety of settings.  In the classroom, it can be used to start discussions about the latest findings and the future of a variety of scientific fields.  Its questions and writing suggestions can suggest further debate or science projects.  Or, it can be used by individuals to explore the expectations and excitement of a scientific career.  Between parent and child it can open a line of communication about a future in the sciences.

Book Cover
The book is meant to encourage and inspire students of all economic situations, races, and genders to consider a future in any of the fields of science from nursing to engineering.  It is not meant to be a comprehensive study of all the fields of science, but includes aspects of astronomy, biology, ecology, engineering, neuroscience, medicine, health sciences, physics, computer science, nanotechnology, mathematics, marine biology, cosmology, chemistry, and geology.

The book was written with young people in mind: cartoons and humor invite curiosity, chapters are fast moving and short, and open-ended questions stimulate thought and inventiveness.  It is the hope of the author that this book will excite kids to think creatively and gain enthusiasm for a future in science.
